Ask yourself these questions to see if the book you chose is “JUST RIGHT” for you:
“TOO EASY”
1. Is the book too short?
2. Does the book contain really large print?
3. Does the book have more pictures than text?
4. How many times have I read this book before?
5. Can I read the text smoothly without any errors?
6. Can I easily understand the author’s message?
“JUST RIGHT”
1. Do I find the topic of the book interesting?
2. Do I have some background knowledge of the subject?
3. Is the size and amount of text appropriate for my reading level?
4. Can I figure out most of the words on a page?
5. When I read, can I read at a smooth even pace?
6. Can I figure out and understand the author’s message?
“TOO HARD”
1. Is the topic or theme unfamiliar to me?
2. Do I make several errors as I read?
3. Are there more than 5 words on a page that I don’t know?
4. Am I confused about what is happening in most of this book?
5. When I read, do I read too slowly with a choppy pace?
6. Do I feel frustrated when I try to understand the author’s message?
